Latin America
For over three decades, our Latin America team has provided legal guidance on offshore services and products. We act for a diverse group of Latin American clients and have represented the three largest companies, as well as many of the major financial and insurance institutions in Latin America, in business transactions. We also provide private client, estates and high net worth individual services.
Members of our Latin America team have a wealth of experience in international commercial and financial transactions, Spanish and Portuguese language capabilities and a cultural understanding of business activities, as well as extensive contacts within the Latin American private and public sector. They represent a cross-section of the group’s practices including all Corporate and Commercial teams; Trusts and Private Client; and Litigation and Insolvency.
Examples of the types of work we have handled include:
- Acted on behalf of three of Latin America’s largest, and state-owned, oil and natural resources companies in connection with risk management programmes.
- Advised in relation to trusts and asset management structures for major Peruvian and Argentinian clients in the international cosmetics, engineering and construction fields.
- Advised on the structure, formation and ongoing operations of a Bermuda investment holding company established for the purposes of acting as a conduit for international investors to invest through the SPV into Paraguayan, agri-business funds.
- Acted as official advisor and mediator to Government of Bermuda with regard to the implementation of a Tax and Information Exchange Agreement with the Government of Mexico and subsequent other major Latin American countries.
